Category: Arts / Exhibits
The Afterimage Photograph Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition - Into the Great White Sands, photographs of White Sands National Monument by acclaimed photographer Craig Varjabedian. The artist created these masterful images during a period of over five years as he explored the surrealistic landscape of White Sands, located in southeastern New Mexico.

And so as I hike among the dunes, I work hard to quiet my mind and seek that state of heart, to tune out the distrations of the world in order to connect with a deeper presence that I sense within this landscape of great light., writes Craig Varjabedian in his essay in Into the Great White Sands.

White Sands is a place breathtakingly vast, encompassing 275 miles with a landscape entirely made of crystals of gypsum and possibly our next national park. Pure white dunes roll in waves for miles to the mountainous horizon- forming a landscape filled with spectacular color and astonishing light. The park is place brimming with a history both ancient and recently significant, contained in an environment with flourishing vegetation and wildlife - whose days begin in vivid sunrise and end in dramatically vibrant sunsets. The images selected for the exhibition are from his collection found in his recently published book of the same name. Autographed books are available for purchase at the gallery.

Exhibition Dates, February 16, 2019 to March 23, 2019

Opening Reception, Saturday, February 16, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Cris Worley Fine Arts is pleased to announce Shannon Cannings, Triggered featuring new works in oil on canvas. The exhibition will open with an artists reception on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 5 to 8 pm. Triggered will be on view through March 23, 2019.

Shannon Cannings is best known for her brightly colored, realistic depictions of plastic toy guns. Constantly seduced by the colors and textures of an omnipotent consumer culture, she gleans from a multitude of stimuli from shiny plastic objects wrapped in equally alluring plastic wrapping, to obsessive reflections on color theory. But, Cannings is not just concerned with the formal aspects of the work. On the contrary, she engages the viewer to explore the complexities of a gun culture that has become more and more pervasive in everyday America.

The artist will be in attendance

The setting is simple: the empty theater. The time is now: the present moment. The lone figure onstage is a storyteller, possibly Homer, possibly one of the many bards who followed in his footsteps. DaVerse Lounge: A Celebration of Youth Voice, Culture and Creativity

Time: All Day Event
Location: Umbrella Gallery
Address: 2803 Taylor St, Dallas, TX 75226

Category: Arts / Exhibits
Gallery reception and show

In 2005, DaVerse Lounge was created with the dream of creating a safe space for youth to experience an authentic connection with the community. Originally founded by Will Richey and Lisa Holland, DaVerse Lounge is an under-21 spoken word mic and interactive art experience in collaboration with spoken word clubs and writing workshops across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This event, produced in partnership between Big Thought and Journeyman Ink serves as an intergenerational celebration of the voice, culture and creativity of North Texas.

Over the last 15 years, DaVerse Lounge has become a sacred space of healing, expression and celebration, not only for youth, but for the community as a whole. This gallery aims to display moments of this sacred space at its best. Every night at DaVerse Lounge, Will Richey leads the crowd in saying these words, My voice has the the power to speak my truth and share my light. The DaVerse Lounge experience is more than any one picture or one piece of art; its more than one person reciting a poem or someone busting out some sweet dance moves; its about a community coming together and taking time to share and to listen to one another. At its core, DaVerse Lounge connects people. It connects introverts to extroverts. It connects the brain to the heart. DaVerse Lounge transcends the boxes often placed on youth and frees attendees up to celebrate their joy, express their pain, and become whole.

Walking through the gallery, I hope you will begin to understand what it might be like for a young person to share their voice onstage with a group of strangers. I hope you might begin to imagine the feeling that a young person must have in realizing that this group of strangers is actually a community of people ready to listen and celebrate their voice and story. I hope you begin to see how a single positive experience at DaVerse Lounge for a young person can have a monumental effect on their life. And finally, if you have not experienced DaVerse Lounge for yourself, then I invite you to come out and join the movement and support youth voice in a way that only DaVerse Lounge can offer.

Pardieu gallery is proud to present Natures Vibrations an exhibit of New works by Texas Artist David Blow February 16 - March 30th

David Blow is a photographer/printmaker/artist and Professor Emeritus of Art at the University of North Texas. David Blow is interested in the duality of spirituality and peacefulness, which you can see and experience in his work. David feels that we retreat to nature whenever we need a new perspective, or peace of mind. He uses nature as a source of spiritual, mental and physical renewal.

David Blows current work is investigating natures vibrations, signals from God. As Reverend Beckwith states : We are all vibrational beings, not just flesh and blood, and as Michio Kaku the physicist claims that at the subatomic level the universe is insubstantial, just vibrations, like a violin string. Quarks, electrons, and the rest are like notes on a string. In a way, we are each a song, music made flesh. All things vibrate as the Creator intended. David is now making these vibrations visible.

David Blow has received awards in numerous national and international exhibitions including (first place) Breed Gallery, Center for Contemporary Arts National Juried Art Show & Competition, Abilene Texas; (hon- orable mention) HEALING NATURE: Art and the Environment, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis, Massachusetts; (purchase award) Delta National Small Prints Exhibition, Bradbury Art Museum, Arkansas State University; and best of show Camp Fires 31st Annual An Artists Christmas. Fort Worth Texas.

Pardieu Gallery is conveniently located 1/2 block north of the popular shopping destination of Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm in Allen.

The setting is simple: the empty theater. The time is now: the present moment. The lone figure onstage is a storyteller, possibly Homer, possibly one of the many bards who followed in his footsteps.

Address: 2803 Taylor St, Dallas, TX 75226
